Everyone is buying me Reese's and I feel loved

I have been so busy at work entertaining over 100 korean kindergarteners a day that I havn't been able to write much or take many photos. Here's a brief update of the last few weeks! 

I just want to say...There is something about Reese's Peanut Butter Cups that give me a sense of comfort and nostalgia to my childhood at Peter Pan park. As I have explained this to many of my friends, many have gifted me with a bag of Reese's, and this makes me feel loved. Now my only issue; not gettin fat.

This day was amazing! I arrived at the soccer complex, being the only girl of course. They told me I was going to play on the South American team. Then I realized that the "Korean" team we were playing against were all cussing at each other in fluent argentinian spanish because they were born and raised there! This is what I love about Seoul.. sometimes I don't even remember that I'm in Korea. 

My friends had never tried Reese's .. had to give it a go.

After 4 AM Burger King in Seoul is converted into a hotel for weary late-nighters waiting for the subway to open. Seriously there were more people sleeping than actually eating.

Yesterday was a great day! I spent some time in the city and eating dinner with my new friends who all speak spanish (and not so much english, which forces me to practice). :)

So sometimes here the taxi drivers like to take you on long routes and get you lost because they know you are foreign, that way they make more money. At least I saw some awesome views of the city.

Ok Korea is really random, There was like a Christmas photo op area in the mall, and since I was wearing a red scarf I had to do it. Maybe I will make a card ...... .. .

Oktoberfest in Seoul

Yesterday was an amazing day! I had an orientation with some other American teachers from my company and met some girls in the same kind of schools as me, even though they all live outside of Seoul. We went to pizza, a tea bar, and then to a big Oktoberfest event at the Hilton. It was sooo hilarious to be surrounded by germans as well as koreans wearing traditional german clothes. They had lots of german foods sitting right next to the dishes of kimchi. I tried out for the arm wrestling contest but I got beat by a korean lady, I swear she cheated!! Later I met some people that appeared to be Korean, but then they were so polite when they were speaking english, so I knew they couldn't be Korean :). When I asked them where they were from they said they were living in the U.S. but born and raised in Argentina! I finally got to speak spanish! They sound just like my teacher Giovanna but look Korean. They told me I sound like a Mexican! hehe...I think I'm gonna go take tango lessons at their restaurant "Buenos Aires". Things have been really hard, but I'm starting to see all of the things that I expected from this city!

I was sooo close to adopting this cat!! He is leash trained and I met him on the street! I called my landlord and they said I couldn't have a cat!!!!! broke my heart.

Salsa dancing in Korea

Last night a few of my coworkers and I went to Itaewan, which is an area of the city full of foreigners. Walking down the street I heard lots of languages and saw lots of different people, about 50 percent korean, 50 percent foreigner. We went to a salsa club called "Caliente" (it would be called that) and it was so funny to dance with Koreans to all of my favorite songs from Oaxaca. Out the window of the club was a view of the city. I also danced with a guy from Clatskanie, Oregon, which is literally 30 minutes from my house.. very random. Small world. I also heard a lot of puertoriquenos trying to hit on korean women in spanish being like, "Que pasaaaa?" It didn't work.

Later I found this hot dog stand which as you notice, on the bottom advertises tacos. Whatever I ate was definitely not a taco, but whatever I guess its the best they have.

Here's a picture of a dance club we went to. The DJ's in Korea are awesome! I took a taxi home because these people can stay out all night unlike me! Old lady! During the 20 minute ride, The taxi driver gave me a korean grammar lesson. He was hilarious and said his name was Oh-handsome and then laughed really hard! ahahahh! 

My apartment ?.. :)?

So I finally had someone come and clean my apartment! Its definitely not what I expected for modern Seoul but apparently its an average korean apartment in an average korean neighborhood. Its free and I am making the best of it!

The bathroom is definitely the most outdated part of my apartment. There is a 101 Dalmatians theme as well as a Peter Rabit theme. There are also random cartoon animals on the ceiling.??? There is also no sink. I feel like I am in 1993 every time I shower. :)

Seoul

I have been really busy and haven't been able to take many pictures or blog. Here are a couple of my neighborhood but I don't want to show any of my apartment yet because I need to clean it....its pretty ghet*o which is not what i was expecting! My first day of work they were planning an event for this weekend and so couldn't give me much of an orientation or training. I taught like 9 classes without really knowing what to do. The kids were really cute but not what you would expect in an asian school. They act pretty much like american kids :) . They call me jenae-teacher. Anyways I will blog more later and show pictures of my apartment. Ciaooo
